On behalf of the Ballet Foundation trustees, warm thanks to all who attended our fundraising event in Auckland on 7 March! Over 200 guests joined us for a fantastic evening at St Matthew-in-the-City. Over $50,000 was raised through ticket sales and an auction that included spectacular art, bespoke jewellery, travel opportunities and dinner with the Rt Hon Bill English. This wonderful support will enhance the Foundation’s continued work to develop and sustain ballet in New Zealand.
The evening’s festivities included performances by two dancers from the Royal New Zealand Ballet and the New Zealand School of Dance. NZSD student Saul Newport performed a selection from Tomasson’s Meistens Mozart and RNZB dancer Laura Saxon Jones performed Fokine’s seminal work The Dying Swan. As our national ballet company, the RNZB is vital to the continued development of ballet in New Zealand, and its official ballet school, the NZSD, is a leader in dance training for students from here and overseas. The Foundation is pleased to sponsor both organisations as well as to provide grants for other ballet initiatives in New Zealand.
We were delighted to conclude the evening with a few words from the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Bill English, who attended the event and shared his enthusiasm for ballet and the work of the Foundation.
We hope to see you soon and encourage you to support the Foundation’s work through donations and by attending future events.
