The Firebird Schools Performance

The Firebird AKL Schools’ Performance

August 2021

Hundreds of school children were fortunate to attend a matinee performance of The Firebird in August, by RNBZ Choreographer in Residence Loughlan Prior. A story ballet very much updated to reflect our times dealing with climate change themes, the students from across Auckland’s schools were thoroughly engaged and and inspired by this ballet. Their enthusiasm was demonstrated by rapturous applause and cheers throughout the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre. For many children, it was their first experience of being in a theatre, and for many more, it was the first time they had the opportunity to attend a ballet performance. We hope this introduction will interest them in attending future theatre and dance productions, and allow them to feel invited to and included in the artform we are so passionate about.

The RNZB Foundation is extremely grateful to Andy Coster, one of our Auckland En Pointe Patrons, for so generously donating to this worthy initiative, memorable for so many young Aucklanders.
